Introduction to Billing and Licenses

Overview

Billing and licenses define how a tenant subscription is paid for, activated, and managed in the Cantara Administration Console.

About billing and licenses

Billing and licenses work together to support tenant subscriptions. Billing defines how the tenant pays for the subscription. Licenses define the subscription details and entitlements that allow the tenant to use the platform.

A tenant must have an active billing profile before licenses can be added. If you open the Licenses page before a billing profile exists, the system displays the message No active billing profile found. Create the billing profile first, then return to licenses.

Tenants can use account billing or credit card billing. Account billing supports purchase orders and invoices. Credit card billing supports card payments for customers who use that payment method.

How billing and licenses work

  • Billing must be set up first. A tenant needs an active billing profile before licenses can be created.

  • The billing method controls how the tenant pays. Use account billing for purchase orders and invoices or credit card billing for card payments.

  • Licenses activate the tenant subscription. After billing is active, add licenses to define the tenant's subscription details and entitlements.
